Fortunately, you can freeze it to preserve it for longer. Both spreadable and solid blocks of goat cheese can be stored in the freezer. Make sure the cheese is creamy and wet before freezing it for the best results. Look for signs of mold or bloating, since these indicate that it should be discarded.

Can You Freeze Goat Cheese?

Goat cheese is available in a wide range of shapes, sizes, flavors, and textures. However, since it is not aged for very long, it is typically creamy with a light, salty taste.

You may freeze it in smaller portions, but you must wrap it tightly. This way, the cheese’s taste, texture, and quality will not be compromised.

If you don’t have a lot of space in your freezer or don’t think you are going to be using the goat cheese for a few weeks, keep it in the refrigerator. However, when the cheese ages, it gets harder and chalkier.

When goat cheese is heated too much, it becomes grainy. When thawed, its components may separate. To keep the cheese’s natural quality, heat it only until it melts, then mix if necessary.

How to Freeze Goat Cheese

Both spreadable goat cheese and goat cheese blocks may be frozen. This way, you’ll be able to utilize it for any future recipes that come to you.

  1. To begin, keep spreadable goat cheese in its original packaging. To prevent odor contamination and freezer burn, cover the spread with plastic wrap before replacing the lid.
  2. After that, write the date of preparation on the container. You’ll be able to keep track of its quality this way.
  3. Solid blocks should be cut into smaller pieces or cubes. Wrap these cubes in two layers of plastic wrap before placing them in zip lock freezer bags.
  4. Empty the freezer bags of any excess air. Make sure the bags are well-sealed and labeled with the date of preparation.
  5. Store the goat cheese in the freezer, ensuring there is enough room to prevent it from deforming.
  6. To defrost, simply place the goat cheese in the fridge to thaw overnight.

You can now use your favorite goat cheese in a variety of recipes!

What Is The Shelf Life of Frozen Goat Cheese?

Goat cheese can retain its flavor in the freezer for around 6 months if properly stored, with a layer of plastic wrap and inside an airtight zip lock freezer bag.

Use the cheese within three months for the best results. It will be okay to consume for another two months after that, although some of the flavor and texture will be lost.

How to Thaw Goat Cheese?

You’ll have to put that goat cheese in the fridge to thaw it, as with other frozen items. It should be transferred from the freezer to the refrigerator and kept there for at least 24 to 48 hours without being opened.

This prevents condensation from forming on the cheese, which would destroy its texture, make it soggy, and lead to germs and mold growing on the cheese.

It’s also important to note that after you’ve opened the container of goat cheese you’ve been freezing, you can’t put it back in the freezer. Once the cheese has been frozen and thawed once, it will lose its texture and begin to crumble the next time you attempt to freeze and thaw it again.
